TOWN OF TONAWANDA — Kenmore West’s Pamela Beltz was ecstatic earlier this season after firing a 43 to lead the Blue Devils golf squad to a 268-290 win over North Tonawanda on Sheridan Park’s front nine. Not only was she thrilled about her season best score, but she was perhaps even more content to have quieted any detractors she may have had heading into the season. Beltz, a junior, led all of her male counterparts in the opening match, including Brett Phillips and Billy Moore, who each finished with rounds of 44 for Ken West. “It felt good. It felt like even though I’m a girl, I’m up to (the boy’s) standards,” Beltz said. “I’m just as good, if not, better than they are.” Being the lone female on a boys team, Beltz said she hopes her consistent play this season can erase the stereotype that girls can’t hang with the boys. “I think that the standards that people have are obviously wrong — to think that girls aren’t as good as boys, when they really are,” she said. “they can do everything just the same.” Beltz began golfing when she was 7-years-old, and has steadily improved since joining the Blue Devils as a freshman. She’s also been taking lessons from mark Becker, an instructor at the Town of Tonawanda Paddock Chevrolet Golf Dome, which has benefited both Beltz’s swing and confidence, Ken West coach Shannon Greco said. “she goes out there and plays her game,” Greco said. “she doesn’t care what anybody else thinks. She’s the type of person that if she heard someone say something about her, she would go show them up on the course.” With an average of 45, Beltz has maintained a solid season for the 4-4 Blue Devils. “She’s able to stay focused. for her size, she manages the golf course really well,” said Greco who is in his first year at Ken West. “she doesn’t hit her drives really long, but she’s able to manage the course and give herself the opportunity to make par.” Greco added that Beltz is just another member of the team. “The guys on the team don’t treat her any differently, they harass her just as much as anybody else,” he said of the playful atmosphere among the Blue Devils. “they harass each other, and she gives it right back to them.” Still, it doesn’t matter what people say about her, Beltz said. There are some great videos and DVDs on the proper swing. I had a wicked slice last year and over the winter I rebuilt my swing by viewing videos, reading golf magazines, and trying things at a driving range. it paid off. I now have a nice inside out swing and hit a slight draw. it is very possible to do, you just need to work on it.

watch the golf channel or anywhere the pros are going. they are playing in those tournaments because they have the most perfect golf swing in golf. learn from them.

Read up Ben Hogan's " Ben Hogan's Five Lessons: the Modern Fundamentals of Golf".

There is a great deal of swing plane explanation in the 5 lesson which will provide you good basis in understanding the proper swing knowledge.

I have applied the swing plane teaching from late mr. Hogan's lesson and my driver is better under control and my irons are swinging in the right plane.

If you get the paperback of the 5 lessons, it will not cost you more than US$10.

It's always good to get at least a few lessons from a pro when you just start out. 'Practice makes perfect', but if you practice the wrong swing all you'll end up with is a 'perfectly wrong swing'.

You can support your practice with some video lessons, there are many free ones out there. I have suggested 2 below, but there are many more – just search for them on Yahoo! or Google.

Without taking lessons? Learn the key fundamentals: grip, stance, pivot, plane, and release, then work to implement them into your swing. Video your swing periodically to ensure you're on the right track. I personally suggest purchasing a golf home software program like V1 (www.v1sports.com) to help you with analyzing your motion. If you don't use video and solely work based on feel, while it's certainly doable, your learning curve will most likely be considerably longer. good luck.

Myself, I read about the basics(grip, stance, posture, etc.), and then practiced on my Momentus swing trainer. it really got my muscle memory working. I recently golfed with a Pro, not a big name, just someone who qualified for the Senior US open, and has qualified for other tournaments, and he said I had a really good swing, even though my score was about 20 strokes worse than his was.

Yeah read Ben Hogan's book, and practice the fundamentals he teaches.

Golf lessons lmao – Adults Only?

How far of a road does one travel to go from having a nickname like “Hacker” to being the No. 1 golfer on a high school team? If you measure the distance with drives by New Philadelphia’s Alan Hicks, it’s pretty far. Hicks, the Quakers’ mad bomber on the golf team, measures the distance with golf balls on the practice range. and it’s done him well. THEY CALLED HIM ‘HACKER’ Hicks started playing golf in 7th grade. “my brother (Drew) started playing when he was a junior and I thought I’d try it, too,” Hicks recalled. “Mr. (Greg) Leggett was the high school coach and Drew went to him for lessons and I went along. “Mr. Leggett told me I had a natural swing, so I started practicing and I played No. 1 in eighth grade.” when Hicks made the move to the high school team, he started at the bottom. “I was the No. 6 man, but I wanted to crack the top 5,” he said. “I always tried to hit the ball a long way and that’s when Coach Leggett started calling me ‘Hacker Hicks.’” ON THE COURSE Hicks eventually learned to control the swing, although he still hits it a long way. The difference? “Probably three buckets a day at the range,” the New Philadelphia senior said. “I hate to say that his distance is his strength, but it helps him more than it hurts,” said Quaker coach Matt Claxon. “But that’s not his whole game. His two best rounds of the year were in qualifying out here. one round he hit driver three times and shot 75 and in another, he hit driver four times and shot 76.” THE TEAM Claxon said that Hicks was a big motivator on his team this season. “he did a great job of getting the younger kids out,” the coach said. “he just got them out to play. I wanted the kids to play competitive rounds in the summer and Alan really responded to that.” IT’S MENTAL “little things can get in the way of scoring,” Hicks said. “you just can’t think about it too much. I shot 35 one round this year when I had three bogies, but I also had an eagle. If you get in your own way on the course, it can cost you from 2 to 7 shots.” It helps to keep a level head. “you just can’t get upset,” Hicks explained. “The more upset you get, the more you start hacking. “That’s where I got my nickname.”
