I have a rich friend who's considering buying an indoor virtual golf simulator for his house, with full video emulation of famous golf courses. it requires hitting off a mat, I think.

Will this mess up his swing?

Those things are inaccurate and can not tell if you hit a slice or hook on your ball, so they can be really decieving.
I wouldn't reccomend it. I just go outside to an empty park and practice with my pitching wedge. Your friend could always go to a driving range or even buy a golf course if he's rich enough.

Yes I think the simulator is useless to our game I would rather go and play the outdoor 18 holes. I've played the simulator once, and my average driver distance is 260 yards but when I am playing in the simulator , it show that my distance is 310 yards, I think this golf machine is rubbish, totally RUBBISH.

Learning Golf Swing Plane Training Aids

Hello, I am not new to golf, i got my first set of clubs 8 years ago (Titleist 762's) and ive decided to get a new set. I hit the 762s fairly consistent. I never bothered to find out my handicap over the years but started to pay more attention to my game this season. I shoot in the 80's consistently and would like to get better. and when I mean better, hit the range more, practice, learn how to shape shots and so fourth. I ordered a set of Mizuno T-Zoid True Blades for a complete steal and im not worried at the moment cause I havent hit them but just in case I figure out my game is not as good as i thought, what are some good sets out there for me? also, I'm a little confused as far as what shafts I should get. I hit the simulator at Golf Galaxy, my driver speed is 100-110, hybrid is 97-100 but irons were 80+, i dont know if it read my swing wrong but if it is accurate, what shafts should i get?(stiff,reg?)

get stiff shafts for your irons and as far as woods you could use extra stiff or stiff shafts just look at what your ball flight would be and your length with both i would guess stiff would be better though.

So with all the simulator and things out there to help your golf swing and what is the best one. So im looking for something to help my swing. I have the problem when I go back and then when I come back like sometimes my swing straght and not like when you sweep across, so is there any thing out there that can help my swing

If you really want to improve, book some time in a simulator that shows you swing path, face angle of the club at impact, swing speed, tempo, ball speed, distance and of course the ball flight with a tracer on screen. You'll find most indoor practice ranges that have a simulator should have these capabilities at the very least. To be sure just ask the operator of the practice facility.

The Vector X or Vector Pro are good, Zelocity is another.

Sounds like you really need a lesson or two. Not to sound snarky, but it sounds like there's a lot not right about your swing. the description isn't the best, either, to be honest. It's just not feasible to give an honest, helpful answer. Do yourself a favor and book the lessons. the pro will be able to give you individualized teaching based on what you need. It'll be money well spent.

Simulator that measure your golf swing and things like that?

I can't decide…there are some great deals on Ebay for the ping rapture used. I hit that club at a local golf store simulator and hit it 240 on the fly (I'm only 5'6" 122 pounds). and the rapture is 400 dollars new and I see some good ones around $150 – 200.

On the other hand I hit the Tour edge XLD good too. I was hitting around 232 on the fly and it is a cheaper driver retailing new for about 300. I see some good ones around 200 on ebay. IDK what to do. I still have to take into account if I want a stiff or reg shaft too. My swing speed is just over 90 mph.

i would say none, taylormade has the best drivers on tour and its prooven

South Shore Country Club offers golf in the spring, summer, fall, and into the winter months, weather permitting.

Now avid golfers, and even those who have never tried their hand at golf, can have a golf experience even on the most blustery winter day with the addition of two golf simulators.

SSCC Management Committee member William Friend presented a plan to the Selectmen this week to convert a storage area into a sports bar and grille named “the Tour,” in which guests will be able to operate two golf simulator amusement games and partake of food and beverages including liquor, subject to approval by state alcoholic beverages licensing authorities.

this new endeavor is in partnership with Raffael’s, the Club’s restaurant, wedding, and banquet facility, which will run the food and beverage operation in the sports bar.

“this will provide an additional recreational opportunity at the Club and will allow members and the public to play golf year-round,” Friend said. “the simulators are very entertaining, and people get hooked on playing them!”

the Selectmen granted approval to amend the town’s lease with SSCC accordingly. the targeted completion date is on or about Thanksgiving weekend. the equipment provider is Evergreen Golf.

“the simulators can tell golfers what’s wrong with their swing and can gauge how far they hit the ball,” Friend said. “And you don’t lose your golf ball!”

Interim Town Administrator Ted Alexiades quipped, “the greens are easier to maintain, too!”

the state-of-the-art simulators are designed to create a realistic and accurate indoor golf experience. They reproduce well-known courses on which golfers may play an 18-hole round individually, as part of a foursome, or potentially as part of a league.

Golfers will also be able to take part in special events such as long-drive contests and tournaments as well as take lessons throughout the winter to stay on top of their game.

Nearly 50 different golf course choices will be offered, including St. Andrews in Scotland, Pebble Beach in California and Spyglass in Florida in addition to large-screen televisions. Players select a course from a pre-loaded menu.

More than 70 Club members responded favorably to a letter they received gauging interest in adding this feature. one member suggested reproducing the SSCC course, which is under consideration.

“the simulators recreate the golf experience at different golf courses. It’s like watching a round on TV but it’s your own ball you’re hitting!” Friend said. “Golfers can pay a different course each week.”

the 20- to 25-foot screen displays each hole. Golfers use their own balls and clubs while cameras focus on how the ball is hit. Golfers see their balls flying through the air and landing.

Hingham architect Al Kearney and his son play golf, and Kearney donated his time to draw up the architectural rendering, which is currently on display in the Pro Shop.

the charge is less that the cost of an actual round of golf at SSCC — $32 per hour for a round during peak hours and $28 during non-peak times. “this is a good activity for a rainy day, too,” Friend said, noting the recent stretch of inclement weather. A round takes about 2 to 2-1/2 hours on the simulators, he noted.

SSCC General Manager Jay McGrail is enthusiastic about the plan. “there really isn’t anything like this around here,” he said. “the new room and the simulators will give local golfers an opportunity to continue golfing in a controlled environment throughout the winter. Our golf pros will also be available, allowing golfers to get a jump on the season with a steady dose of lessons.”

McGrail is confident golfers will appreciate this asset. “I think people will be amazed to learn just how accurate these new simulators are,” he said. “If you slice a ball you’ll see it slice and if you draw the ball you’ll see it draw back into the fairway.”

Selectmen Chairman Bruce Rabuffo, who admitted that he prefers skiing to golf but is very enthusiastic about adding this feature, said the simulator would offer “a great experience.  this is the ultimate in video games, if you will, with instant feedback.”

Golf simulators could be a hit at South Shore Country Club

I've always wondered how i could improve my stroke and swing withoutactually hitting the golf course. would an in home simulator help mejust as well as going out and practicing?

for the price you would pay for an in home simulator, you would do just as well to get a membership at your local club. any simulator that is worth a crap will cost you a pretty penny. plus there are just some shots that you cannot simulate outside of the golf course. you just have to see the shot. at the very least just get out on the range.

Yeah if you have $15K to $20K to blow and the space for it, it might help. The problem with the simulators is that they show how far you hit the ball, so the emphasis is to swing as hard as you can which isn't always the best thing. nothing beats real practice and if you don't want to go out and practice, then maybe you don't really want to improve all that much. your asking for an easy way out "How do I improve without putting much effort into it?" and golf just ain't that easy.

Would an in home simulator help mejust as well as going out and practicing?

I'm a 29 year old male who has played baseball most of my life but has never played golf, but love going to the driving range to relax. recently I was at a trade show and there was a golf simulator there in which you hit an actual golf ball with a driver into a screen where a fairway is projected.. I took about 10 swings and it measured that i had a club speed between 123 and 128mph, and that i was hitting the ball between 320 and 364 yards, people were coming up and congratulating me and patting me on the back and some were saying Tiger Woods club speed is around 130 mph. my question is, Did I do something above average or out of the ordinary?

That's pretty dang fast. my guess is that there would be a big ol slice with that 125mph swing resulting in a 270 yard drive.

Not really. Most beginners who have not learned any golf swing technique will instinctively step up and just swing as hard as they can. I'd guess this is probably what you did, unfortunately the computer probably didn't tell you how huge of a slice you hit. There are very few golfers who can consistently swing at 130 mph and have favorable results, and even Tiger doesn't get away with that kind of club head speed all of the time.

My clubhead speed has been measured at 138 mph. I hit it LARGE.

The golf head (not club) speed is the speed at which the golf club head contacts the ball at address.

Yes, it might indicates that you have a smooth and fast tempo. 320 and 364 are quite long. Most people never reach that distance.

Those machines are often really off. Tigers swing is around 140ish MPH. I have an average club head speed (with driver) of 140-142 and hit the ball around 300-330 on the course. when I hit into those “simulators” it tells me that my club head speed is 160-170 and I hit the ball over 400 yards. they set it up like that so people buy there clubs, and feel better about there swing. they are also set up so that if you hit a bad shot, it shows it in the fairway.

It's above average swing speed. also, the screen tends to add a few yards as … well, who wouldn't want to buy that cool driver that you just drove 350 yards with in virtual golf.

The baseball swing is how I taught my wife to understand the theory of the golf swing. also, notice how in your baseball stance, your hips are squared to the plate while your shoulder is turned, loading the bat.. that's basically one of the secret sauces to a nice swing. You've built up the torgue with your baseball swing. if you catch the ball late, it's to left field, catch it early, cause your hands have passed your hips, it's to right field… same theory

You are hitting the ball at the same rate as several PGA tour players. not surprising since you played baseball. several major league baseball players play golf and are very good. the question is can you do that on the course?

What is golf club speed?

QUEENSBURY — Bay Meadows Golf Club will soon go year-round,thanks to the addition of five indoor golf simulators.

The golf course is in the process of building a 3,400-square-footaddition to house five wide-screen PGA Tour simulators.

Operator Mike Melucci said the course will change its name to BayMeadows Year-round Golf Center, and keep three or four seasonalworkers on staff full time.

“Everybody is very excited,” Melucci said, adding that his coursewill be the only one north of Albany with indoor and outdoorgolf.

Melucci said the addition came about through an agreement withEverGreens Golf, which closed its indoor golf center at the FactoryOutlets of Lake George.

Bay Meadows will lease the simulators from EverGreens and operatethe indoor golf center, providing much of the same experience asthe former outlet location.

EverGreens will now focus strictly on leasing and installingsimulators for residential and commercial clients. The businesswill keep an office at Bay Meadows, and the indoor golf center willserve as its Northeast showroom.

The center should be up and running by mid-November.

Golfers will be able to schedule tee times, play in leagues or takelessons using the simulators. The devices have 50 courses, ninedriving ranges and a full swing analysis.

Reynolds said the technology has evolved tremendously in the last10 years so that golfers can maintain their game during the winterand be ready for the course in the spring.

“A lot of people are using it for performance, but there is alsocamaraderie,” he said of interaction with other indoor golfleagues.

The next closest simulator is Tark’s Indoor Golf Saratoga, whichReynolds said could provide opportunities for virtual tournamentsand other collaborations.

Likewise, indoor golf isn’t considered competition for outdoorcourses.

Golfers can practice indoors before heading outside, or use thesimulators when the weather is unfavorable, he said.

“You can go in midday and play nine holes and have lunch within ahalf-hour,” Reynolds said.
