“The location is great for general buzz,” Baker said of the Bexley Square space, adding he’s already had a lot of phone calls about the estate sale as people noticed him organizing the contents of the Rutherford home.

Baker said the Rutherfords needed a place to sell their belongings because they live in a gated community with a half-mile narrow driveway. they are hoping to take advantage of the serene environment in the shopping space featuring soft lighting and faux painting.

Because Baker is a Bexley business owner and resident, he has an extensive network of clientele to promote the sale. with the closure of the Bexley Monk, there was plenty of onsite parking to accommodate potential buyers, he said.

“We are probably going to get a thousand (plus) visitors,” he said.

Rutherford said the new Albany house was built in a different time for a different lifestyle when the couple did a lot of entertaining and had as many as 300 people in the home at one time for entertaining.

They held Homeless Family Foundation fundraisers there and a variety of other charitable or political fundraisers, he said. at the time the home in new Albany was built he was in his early 50s. He’s turning 65 and the couple doesn’t entertain as much.

“Plus with only two of us, who needs that much space,” he said. “Neither Kathy or I grew up in large homes.”

Rutherford was the founder of Goal Systems International, a computer software company that was started in the mid-1970s and went public in 1989. He is now retired. The couple is moving to Powell to spend more time with their youngest son and grandchildren. another son lives in Colorado.

A variety of items from pool furniture to kitchen gadgets, sterling silver to crystal glasses, art by original artists and upholstered furniture will be available at the tag sale.

Rutherford was an enthusiastic sportsman so there is hunting and golf equipment for sale also. Visitors will find an indoor driving range that analyzes a player’s golf swing, Baker said.

“They had the best you could go out and buy,” Baker said of the estate.

Baker said the merchandise will sell for 25 cents on the dollar. so a visitor could purchase a set of flatware that costs $2,000 per set for $500 a set, or one fourth the cost of retail.

There will be items available for every price point, Baker said, adding “You can come in with $5 and get kitchen utensils.”

Baker is extremely excited about a special clock at the front of the store that has a built-in barometer. for specialty items like the clock he researched to determine the value.

Fortunately he is lucky to have six part-time people on his payroll to help with the large estate. Some of his employees have extensive experience in retail merchandising and were able to design the Bexley Square space in the most functional way possible.

Other items from the huge estate were sold in advance, including a 1,300-bottle wine collection that was auctioned off in new York and a vintage pool table.

The new Albany estate was set up to seat 36 visitors for a sit-down dinner, Baker said. The new home will only be able to accommodate 12 for a dinner party.

Visitors interested in art will find a large selection to choose from, with pieces selling from $200 to $2,000. Some of the pieces of art were never displayed at the existing home, Baker said. There are 60 original oil paintings for sale, he said.

The Rutherfords made several trips to Europe to collect the art and antique sterling silver to decorate the new Albany home.

There will be window treatments, seats, pillows and bedding that retail for thousands of dollars available at a fraction of the cost of retail, Baker said.

The estate sale will be held Oct. 14 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Oct. 16 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Oct. 17 noon to 4 p.m.

This is the first in a series of posts where I’ll be detailing each aspect of the P3ProSwing software, and explaining what these numbers tell you about your golf swing.

P3ProSwing software is so in-depth, that at first it can be a challenge to interpret the data that’s presented on screen, and relate it back to your perfect swing.

Topic of the Day: Club Face Angle this is the angle of your club face at the moment of impact with the golf ball.  If your club face is not square at impact your ball will not fly straight.  If the Face Angle is not square it is either: • Open – the club face angles away from you • Closed – the club face angles toward you

Ideally, you want to have a SQUARE face angle reading here.  this means that your club head came through the impact zone without angling away or toward you.  A club face angle that’s square through impact is essential to hit the ball straight.

In the above screen capture, I hit the golf ball with my driver OPEN 1.3 degrees at impact.  you can see that the toe of the club is tilted at the top, to the right.  That’s what is referred to as ‘open’.  after the ball was hit, you can see my driver was closed 11 degrees.  this indicates that I’m not the best golfer in the world – and my grip probably slipped a little at impact.  not too bad, but not perfect.

A perfect drive would be just slightly open in the area four inches before the ball, square at impact and just slightly closed  in the four inches after impact.  So I’m not horrible, but I definitely have room for improvement.

In order to play consistent golf you should use only one golf swing for every club other than for putting and chipping. Your setup, posture, grip, aim and swing should be the same whether your using a driver, five iron or wedge. the only variable that comes into play is the length and the loft of each club. With the driver the width of your stance would be wider and would get narrower for each club as it gets shorter. the other variable is the distance of the ball would be farther away as the clubs get longer. But all of the basic swing fundamentals would be the same and your rhythm, timing and tempo should remain the same.

A fatal mental mistake is think you have to change something with the basics of your swing if your changing clubs. if you are taking a full swing it does not matter whether your using a 3 wood or 8 iron. Do not think you have to swing harder with a longer club or make a special adjust. With a longer club the length of time of the swing would be longer because the length of the shaft is longer.

To play consistently, I have outlined below five basic golf swing fundamentals that you should base your one swing concept around.

1. Use one proper grip for each club. the club should be more in the fingers then the palms of your hand and the ”v’s” of your thumbs and index fingers should point between your chin and right shoulder.

2. Your knees should be slightly bent and weight evenly distributed. Lean forward slightly and at the hips.

3. Keep your chin up and off your chest. during the back swing, your weight should slightly shift to your right foot.

4. on your downswing, release the club through the ball and your shoulders should be parallel to your target line. the hips, knees and feet will lead your upper body through impact.

5. on your follow through your weight will shift to your front foot and your belt buckle should be facing the target. Finish the golf swing with a nice high follow through.

So often I will here comments from golfers such as ”I only use my fairway woods because I do not know how to hit long irons” or similar type comments. those type of comments imply to me that they think there is a different golf swing for different clubs, which simple is not the case. Incorporate into your game the mental thought of one swing for every club and use these five fundamentals into every full swing. by implementing this mind set you will make the game less complicated and play more consistent golf.

Okay, I am a freshman, and this fall I played on our girls golf team. I am not a par golfer, but I did play #1 for varsity the whole year and beat the school record. I shoot on average an 85. I want to choose a coach who will get me to be a par golfer by the end of my high school career. I learn really quickly. So anyways, I have narrowed it down to these to coaches, "Mel" and "Dan". My personality and Mel's really click, and he has great software that has some really cool features including showing pros swings and changing them to left-handed, (I'm left-handed). So anyways, Mel gave me a lesson and my swing already looks a ton better. Now moving to Dan, who I'm not quite sure about. He has coached some unbelievable golfers, but he has also coached a girl for 3 years who I played and beat. When I had a lesson, he was very sure of himself, and almost seemed to brag. I felt really intimidated and he basically told me it was his way or the highway. but he is a good coach..

You talk as if you plan on pursuing golf in college so I would select the coach that has college connections or at least talks about college golf and is able to prepare your game for college golf.

rokndrumm3r, Mel is the coach you should select. go into this knowing that situations change and you may have to readjust your path to college golf without Mel but you certainly seem intelligent enough to weigh all of your options. I think that's a rare trait for someone your age. Usually parents have to drag the kids to do what you're going to do.

You could always try a coach and switch after a few lessons if you don't feel like you're making progress or aren't comfortable. You're young and have some time to find your coach. You could tell them both that you aren't sure who to go with and see what they say. I bet Mel is cool with you trying them both out while Dan might not be receptive to you trying them both out.

So, you could try Dan first and if he's not your type switch to Mel.

The iSlice Golf app is aimed at amateur golfers who are more likely to hit banana-shaped shots, and turns the iPhone into a club face.

Mount Lawley Golf Club pro Duncan Kegg sparked the idea when he used the iPhone’s spirit level.

The app monitors the position of the golfer’s hands and forearms at six different stages of the golf swing and gives an audio warning when it takes on an open or closed angle.

The seasoned pro had so much faith in his idea that he created his own company and recruited several investors from the Mount Lawley club in Perth.

Between them they put about $38,000 into developing two apps with ASC Software. The second app, called my Golf Bag, was released two weeks ago and measures a club’s lie and loft angles.

The technology took the best part of a year to develop and test, but mr Kegg said he wasn’t worried about the app making his job redundant.

“Ninety-five per cent of golfers come to me wanting advice on how to fix their slice,” mr Kegg said.

“If it’s really good I’m hoping that I won’t be teaching anymore.”

The seasoned pro admits his drives aren’t always straight-down-the-middle affairs and he’s started bringing the new app into his clients’ training regime.

“There’s nothing on the Apple Store on the iPhone or the iPod Touch like this,” mr Kegg said.

“There is a wireless device that clips to your golf club and quite a few years ago I was involved with the development of a robot that monitored swing but those are both very expensive.”
